[CA11] AIS700 NMEA 0138 Connection
Dear Forum Manager,

I have recently acquired an AIS700 and is planning to transmit data to my MFD C90W via the NMEA 0138 port 1 on the AIS at 38,400 baud. In the manual and on the NMEA Cable the port numbers are not indicated but rather HI OUT and LO OUT. Which one corresponds to Port 1?

All the Best!

RE: AIS700 NMEA 0138 Connection
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum mika1,

This information may be found within page 32 of the C-Series Widescreen MFD Installation Manual. As indicated therein, Port 2 would be used for 38400 NMEA 0183 communications with an AIS receiver/transceiver. The illustration as well as the description for each port is meant to imply left to right assignment of the NMEA 0183 ports within the illustration. Port 1's leads are white, green, yellow, and brown. Port 2's leads are orange/white, orange/green, orange/yellow, and orange/brown.

Thank you for your quick response!

The AIS700 has two ports for NMEA 0138 output, port 1 and port 2. Which leads in the NMEA 0183 Cable from the AIS700 belongs to port 1 (my original question, sorry for not being clear enough)?

RE: [CA11] AIS700 NMEA 0138 Connection
mika1,

38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 is also commonly referred to as NMEA 0183 High (rate), while 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 is commonly referred to a NMEA 0183 Low (rate). As you have suggested, the installation guide for the AIS 700 has referred to its 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 leads as NMEA 0183 Hi leads. Accordingly, the AIS700's NMEA 0183 Hi output leads should be interfaced to the C-Series Widescreen MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 2 input leads. Similarly, the AIS700's NMEA 0183 Hi input leads should be interfaced to the C-Series Widescreen MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 2 output leads. The MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 2 setting will need to be configured to "AIS 38400".
