[CA11] Current limit error
Our SG1 SmartPilot gives a current limit error when it is first powered up. The error lasts for 2-4 minutes, then goes away seemingly forever until powered down again (we have used it on 5 day passages with no problem).
The error still occurs when the drive unit power leads are disconnected from the SG1, as well as with different control heads. Again, after a couple of minutes, the error goes away and the system runs perfectly fine - it is only when first powered up that the error occurs. Any insight? Is this a failing computer? It has acted like this for a long time. Mark |

RE: [CA11] Current limit error
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Mark,
These symptoms are indeed odd. Under most conditions, these symptoms would be indicative of a problem with the drive unit (either its motor or within its clutch). This may be verified by disconnecting not only the drive unit's motor leads from the course computer, but also its clutch leads. Should the problem abate when tested in this manner, then the drive unit would be deemed to be in need of service or replacement. However, should the problem persist when tested in this manner, then it would be indicative of a failing component of within the course computer's circuitry. Unfortunately, Raymarine can no longer service S1/S1G/S2/S2G/S3/S3G autopilots, requiring that the autopilot be replaced or that a second hand S1G be located when the current unit fails completely. |

RE: [CA11] Current limit error
Thank you Chuck. I should have mentioned that the drive unit is a reversing hydraulic pump, so no clutch. Sounds like I may have a failing computer unit. It is strange that it only does this for a couple of minutes on power up, then is fine for the rest of the time it is on. We have done a couple of 100-150hr passages with no problem from it after the first minute or two.
