Q. Should I be feeding power to the converter independently via a white port and red cable?
A. Yes. Per the FAQ found here, Raymarine MFDs are neither designed to be powered by, nor have they been designed to supply power to a SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone. The FAQ found here addresses how a DSC VHF radio having a NMEA 0183 communications interface may be supplied with GPS data from a MFD lacking a NMEA 0183 communications interface.
