RE: [CA11] Wind transducers and mast rotation
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Shaun,
Q1. In order for the wind features to work I believe I need to get, at least, a T221 mast rotation sener, an ev-1 or 2 core (or some other) heading sensor, and a Micro-talk gateway, correct? A1. Please note that while the Tack Tick products may be able to repeat wind data from other systems, then cannot calibrate third party sensors. Should the Garmin wind transducer feature a NMEA 2000 communications interface and should you have a Garmin display/product which feature a NMEA 2000 communications interface and is capable of calibrating the wind transducer, then a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone may be constructed to permit the two Garmin products mentioned, MicroTalk Gateway, and NMEA 2000 heading source (may require a device to calibrate/align heading) to each be interfaced as individual spurs to the backbone. Wind and heading data would then be made available to the Tack Tick system. However, as you will be installing a TackTick Masthead Rotation Sensor, it would be recommended that the Garmin masthead be replaced with a Tack Tick T120 Wireless Wind Transducer and that the Garmin display be reconfigured to simply repeat wind data from the Tack Tick system. If considering future installation of an Evolution autopilot, then you may indeed want to consider installation of an EV-1 CCU to function as the system's heading data source. Alternatively and at a potential cost savings, Raymarine's AR200 Augmented Reality Sensor (combine the heading/roll/pitch sensing of the EV-1 with GPS) may be installed. Q2. Will correct true and apparent wind data be displayed on other instruments on the nmea2000/0183 network or just the MN100-2? A2. The answer to this question is dependent upon the product which will be displaying wind data. In the case of Raymarine products, if supplied with all of the data items necessary to calculate true wind, and the product is designed to calculate/display true wind, then it will be displayed. |
