RE: GPS Connection
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum WWMS,

For the benefit of others who may be viewing this thread, the AIS650 is entirely dependent upon its internal GPS receiver circuitry and supplied passive GPS antenna to determine a GPS position FIX to be used in its AIS RF transmissions. The AIS650 is not designed to use GPS data from a NMEA 0183 or SeaTalkng/NMeA 2000 data source for such purposes. Should the purpose of interfacing the Raystar 120 NMEA 0183 GPS Sensor to the AIS650 be to multiplex GPS data with the AIS data for use with the MFD, then:

- NOTE: the 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 output of Raymarine products may be paralleled to supply data to up to three NMEA 0183 listeners ... therefore, making is less complicated, not dependent upon operation of the AIS650, and more reliable to interface both the 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 input of the AIS650 and VHF radio to the NMEA 0183 output of the Raystar 120 NMEA 0183 GPS Sensor.

- connect the red lead of the Raystar 120 NMEA 0183 GPS Sensor to a switched 12VDC power circuit which has been protected with a 0.5A fuse

- connect the ground (shield) lead of the Raystar 120 NMEA 0183 GPS Sensor to each of the following:
----- ground
----- AIS650 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN- (yellow) lead
----- DSC VHF radio 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN- lead

- connect the NMEA 0183 OUT+ (yellow) lead of the Raystar 120 NMEA 0183 GPS Sensor to each of the following:
----- AIS650 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN+ (grey) lead
----- DSC VHF radio 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN+ lead
