RE: (DG) Interfacing E series classic to E series Hybrid
Hi mcduck52

Thank you for your enquiry.

In general we do not recommend connecting MFDs of different generations through SeaTalk or STng simply because they may both conflict as to which is a data master, this can lead to corruption of data.

They should not be connected through Ethernet (SThs or RayNet) either click here for further information.

In spite of this, some customers have connected the SeaTalk2 to STng on the respective MFDs and found that they can share nav data, but again, there are likely to be issues with conflict due to MASTER/SLAVE conflict.

Do not use the NMEA0183 connection, this is not compatible with STng or NMEA2000. Using a combination of NMEA0183 and SeaTalk2 / STng can lead to data loops as well.

Not sure what your friend refers to - the only recommended conversion from STng to SeaTalk is through an STng to SeaTalk converter.

It is always better to restrict networking units to those that are actually designed to be networked

Regards
