[CA] TM258 with Axiom?
Hi,
I currently have the Axiom 9 and the RV 100 duper, but it struggles to find the bottom at times in 400-500ft using the chirp sonar. Has been suggested to run a TM258 and a Y cable and keep the real / down vision and use this for conventional sonar. Have looked and think i have the answers, but have been told you need the CP370 as the axiom won't run the TM258, although also been told it will (but only at 600w) it was recommended i try it and see before adding a CP370. This stuff is pretty expensive here in New Zealand so want to get it right. Any answers would be helpful. Thanks Chris |

RE: [CA] TM258 with Axiom?
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Chris,
Axiom RV MFDs may indeed be interfaced to both a RV transducer (or RV transducer pair) and to a CP370 compatible transducer by using the A80492 Y-Cable. However, as you have suggested, Axiom RV MFDs and Axiom DV MFDs feature internal 600W 50kHz / 200kHz sounder. Accordingly, should the Axiom RV or Axiom DV MFD be interfaced to a compatible 1kW or 2kW 50kHz / 200kHz transducer, then the output power of the transducer will be limited to 600W. Should one desire to have a compatible 1kW or 2kW 50kHz / 200kHz transducer transmit 1kW, then it would be necessary to interface the MFD to a CP370 Sounder Module, which would in turn be interfaced to the CP370 compatible 1kW or 2kW 50kHz / 200kHz transducer. |

RE: [CA] TM258 with Axiom?
Thanks a lot Chuck.
That’s what I thought, I fish here in arond 300m/900ft a lot, would I expect a reasonable bottom return at that depth without the CP370? My plan is try it and if it works well, keep it if not upgrade then to a CP370 as well. Cheers |

Chris,
The operating depth (900' / 300m) which you have specified would typically be considered at the upper end of the operational depth supported by 600W sounders. As you have suggested it is worth trying the TM258 with the MFD's internal 600W 50 kHZ / 200kHz sounder before investing in a CP370. |
