[CA11] Depth over 100M goes back to Zero not ---
I have a P19 depth transducer on the 0183 network going through a SeaTalk Ng converter. Output is via a Axiom 9 and i70.

When in deep water over 100m the depth reading does not display --- instead it goes to a heart stopping low reading of 1-10 meters it will then bounce around what appears to be the depth say in 149m it will display 49m.

Is there a way to stop this and get the system to blank out over 100M or to show 3 digits. This is a new issue in the past 3-4 months.

Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Sv Flip-Flops,

I'm not aware of a P19 transducer which outputs NMEA 0183 or which may be interfaced to a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter. What make/model product is the P19 transducer's cable directly connected to?

The P/n on the depth sounder is: 31-188-4-01
Thanks Chuck!

Sv Flip-Flops,

The Airmar part number which provided within your previous response, 31-188-4-01, corresponds to Raymarine's M78713 P19 Instrument Depth Transducer. This transducer does not support NMEA 0183. Instead, this is an analog instrument depth transducer which is designed to be interfaced to the depth transducer terminals of a Raymarine depth sounding instrument product (ex. iTC-5, i50 Depth, ST60 Depth, ST290/70 Depth Pod, ST50 Depth, etc.). What model of Raymarine product is your P19 instrument depth transducer connected directly to?

Chuck,
It's connected to an ITC-5.

Sv Flip-Flops,

Thanks for clarifying the equipment list and how it has been interfaced. It would be considered normal for a 200kHz instrument depth sounder to lose contact with the bottom at the approximate depth which you have reported. When such conditions occur, the sounder will begin searching for the bottom within incremental depth ranges and continue doing so until it receives a strong enough return for it to report a bottom depth. Until a bottom is found, the reported depth should appear as dashes. Please note that when operating the vessel in a manner which would approximate following a depth contour and should that depth be approximately that which the instrument had lost bottom, then it would be expected that intermittent contact may occur. Organics suspended within the water column and thermoclines may trigger briefly displayed depth values associated with the suspended organics or thermocline. Should the problem occur under other conditions and both the i70 and iTC-5 both be operating with the latest available Raymarine product software updates, then it would be recommended that the iTC-5 be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.

Sv Flip-Flops,

Great Thanks, Chuck. Latest software and get around to sending it in once we're on the other side of the Pacific.
