[CA11] T120 Wind Transmitter distance to T121 Hull Transmitter
Hi,

I have a 1994 Hunter Legend 40.5 with a 63ft mast (from the waterline). So, the mast height from the deck is around 58ft. Can the T120 reliably stay connected to the the T121 when over 60ft apart?

Regards,

Wes

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Wes,

Installing wireless wind transducers on masts taller than 45' above deck is not typically advised. We would typically recommend a wired masthead transducer for use with masts as tall as yours.

RE: [CA11] T120 Wind Transmitter distance to T121 Hull Transmitter
Hello!
Just jumping onto this old thread because I'm looking for some guidance on a similar installation.
My boat's masthead is 46" above the deck and I would like to use the T120 with a MicroTalk gateway mounted on my stern rail. The stern rail is about 2' above the deck but is also about 18' aft of the mast. Is 46" too high considering the stern rail is up 2' and/or is there any other place you could suggest to mount the gateway that would make this work package work.

I'm trying to avoid a wired transducer if at all possible.

Thanks

Kirk

Kirk,

The application which you are seeking to apply this equipment to may exceed the capabilities of the product. I would recommend that you reconsider installation of a wired transducer for your application.

RE: [CA11] T120 Wind Transmitter distance to T121 Hull Transmitter
Thanks Chuck

I'll look into a wired transducer.

I currently do not have a wind instrument installed. As I understand it, I will need a Wind instrument such as an i60 in order to calibrate the transducer, as the Axiom 9 is not set up to do the calibration.
Which wind instruments would be compatible with an E22078? Would any legacy instruments work?

Would the i60 otherwise interface to the Axiom 9 through the STng backbone and would wind data then be fully displayed on the wind dashboard? I would need to mount the i60 in a location where it will not easily be seen from the helm, so would rely on the Axiom.

Any other suggestions you can give are much appreciated.

Kirk

RE: [CA11] T120 Wind Transmitter distance to T121 Hull Transmitter
Kirk,

Q1. I will need a Wind instrument such as an i60 in order to calibrate the transducer, as the Axiom 9 is not set up to do the calibration.
A1. Negative. With the introduction of LightHouse 3 v3.11.42, calibration of depth, speed and wind sensors which have been interfaced to an iTC-5 may now be calibrated from an Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL MFD as well as from an i70S/i70 MFID.

Q2. Which wind instruments would be compatible with an E22078? Would any legacy instruments work?
A2. See the response to Q1. Additionally, the E22078 Masthead Wind Transducer may be interfaced to an i60 Wind instrument, ST60/ST60+ Wind instrument, or ST70/ST290 Wind Pod.

Q3a. Would the i60 otherwise interface to the Axiom 9 through the STng backbone?
A3a. Should an i60 Wind instrument be installed, then it would indeed be interfaced as a spur to the system's backbone.

Q3b. Would wind data then be fully displayed on the wind dashboard?
A3b. Yes.

Good news! I'll go with the E22078 and iTC-5. Much simpler.

Under which conditions might i need to go with an E22079 long arm transducer?

Thanks again Chuck for the great support.

Kirk,

The benefit of a wind transducer having a longer arm is that its longer arm will move it farther from the mast into potentially be potential cleaner air. Those seeking the maximum performance from a wind system, such as for racing, will typically install a long arm wind transducer.

Thanks as a cruising sailor, I'll go with the short one.
