[LW11] GPS Malfunction
Need help identifying solution.
System data alarm - POSITION FIX LOST
This message comes up approximately every 10 minutes and then returns to normal. GPS data screen shows no satellites when alarm sounds
Advise procedure or part number for solution.

Equipment Type - E80
S/N E02011 0670363
Software V5.69
Prwoduct ID D598

Dear Louise
Not sure if it's a NMEA or Seatalk connection. But I believe the part number for the GPS is e32042 serial number 0474420. The green light on the top of the unit will turn red when the signal lost alarm goes on. Can you help with a replacement part number thanks

RE: [LW11] GPS Malfunction
Dear frank,

Thank you for the response.

The issue is more than likely to be a fault with the GPS antenna rather than the chartplotter.

What manufacturer is the GPS antenna?
Is it connected on NMEA or seatalk?
Have you checked the cabling for any loose connections or corrosion?

Many Thanks
Louise

RE: [LW11] GPS Malfunction
Hi Louise
I do not know if the GPS is hooked up to NMEA or seatalk. I did check most of the wiring and it looks okay

I tracked down the GPS location. The green light on the GPS turns to red and my chart plotter indicates lost signal. I opened up the GPS and found part number e32042. Number below it might be the serial number 0474420
Can you advise the replacement part number?
Will it be a direct replacement? Plug-and-play?

Thanks for your help
Regards
Frank

RE: [LW11] GPS Malfunction
Dear frank,

The replacement GPS antenna would be the RS150, part number E70310. As this is a STng GPS, you will need the ST1 to STng convertor to integrate it with your ST1 system, the part number is E22158.

Many Thanks
Louise

RE: [LW11] GPS Malfunction
Hi Louis
I got another suggestion and wanted your opinion on whether the following would work:
T70327
T70134
A06061
If the above will work can you tell me the pros and cons of each suggestion?
Please advise

Thanks Frank

RE: [LW11] GPS Malfunction
Dear frank,

Thank you for your reply.

T70327 - this is the RS150 with the polemount if you require the polemount
T70134 - this is the STng backbone starter kit
A06061 - this is the E- classic to STng adaptor cable

Using the T70134 and A06061 will in theory work but we have not tested this, the E-Classic can receive GPS data over NMEA2000.

Many Thanks
Louise

RE: [LW11] GPS Malfunction
Louise very interesting. Thanks for the reply but I'm not interested in trying something out in theory.
Someone else mentioned I should try changing the battery first? Is there a battery inside the existing unit that maybe loading down the unit and causing it to stop working temporarily? If so can you give me the battery type and instructions to change it out?

Regards

RE: [LW11] GPS Malfunction
Dear frank,

We cannot provide the information you have requested, the GPS antenna is a sealed unit. You can send the RS125 (E32042) in to us for a fixed price repair, this is currently £130 plus VAT and shipping. You can book this online here.

Many Thanks
Louise
