[CA11] Duplicate Rudder Position PGN: 127245 on SeaTalkNg
Duplicate/Different PGN: 127245 on SeaTalkNg network

Evolution AutoPilot: EV2, ACU200, 2-P70R’s

MFD’s: a97, a95 (4 x a78’s not on SeaTalkNg)

New Volvo Penta D3 EVC3 inboards with Rudder Sensor. Sensor connects through Engine to EVC3 and then through a Volvo EasyConnect NMEA2000 bridge to SeaTalkNg.

Problem: the Volvo Rudder sensor is transmitting PGN: 127245, Instance 0 and Instance 1 with real(actual) rudder position data accurately. The ACU 200 is transmitting PGN:127245, Instance 0 and instance 252 with a (null) or blank position. The EV1 retransmits the ACU 200 (null) Instance 252.

Data verified with Maretron USB100 and N2K-Analyzer software.

The MFD’s and P70r’s are receiving all the traffic which causes there output to bounce between 0 and actual position.

I’m sure the ACU200 isn’t going to like multiple PGN: 127245’s on the N2K bus when the boat is ready for sea trial after re-powering.

Please advise.

Backup Information (bad experience with RayMarine Rudder Reference Unit)
———————————
Original Build 2016
Evolution Autopilot Kit (EV2, ACU200, P70r, Type 1 Hydraulic Pump)
A97 MFD with sounder
HD Color Radar

The dealer installed the Autopilot without Rudder Reference Unit (RRU) due to access issues in engine room. (RRU added in 2017).

System was commissioned and worked very well!

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum bruluna,

What versions of software is presently installed within each of the Evolution autopilot components?

bruluna,

Please excuse this late response as I have been out of the office for the last week. A problem report will be logged to have the engineering team investigate this issue for possible inclusion of a correction within a future Evolution autopilot software update. In the interim, it would be recommended that Raymarine's E70227 ECI-100 Universal Engine and Control Interface be considered for use with such systems rather than Volvo's EasyConnect NMEA2000 bridge to SeaTalkNg.

RE: [CA11] Duplicate Rudder Position PGN: 127245 on SeaTalkNg
Having read the documentation on RayMarine ECI-100, the only difference between Volvo EasyConnect and the ECI-100 is that the RayMarine product will only transmit PGN: 127245 from a Volvo IPS system? This would mean that I would not see any RUDDER position indication from my Volvo Inboard Rudder position sensor?

An interesting observation: I recommissioned the vessel and P70r AutoPilot configuration...when AUTO is engaged, the rudder position indication is correct with no blinking...This is proven by using the P70r rotary dial to turn 90 degrees PORT..all rudder position indicators show movement of rudder to max set PORT turn and show a slow return to center position when 90 degree turn is complete.

I will re-scan network with N2K Analyzer with AutoPilot engaged as soon as i get a chance.

bruluna,

As indicated, this problem was addressed with Raymarine's engineering team, who have identified a problem with the Volvo EasyConnect NMEA2000 bridge and has recommended that Volvo engine systems instead be interfaced to Raymarine systems via Raymarine's ECI-100 until further notice.
