[CA11] Raymarine SPX10 / ST8002 to Garmin NMEA Network?
Hello,

I have a Sea Ray Sedan Bridge and am trying to connect a Raymarine SPX10 autopilot and ST8002 control head to a Garmin 1040xs Chartplotter with an NMEA2000 backbone.

It is my understanding I can connect the SPX 10 directly to the NMEA 2000 backbone using a Seatalk NG to DeviceNet Adapter Cable. Is this correct?

I am having trouble figuring out the best way to interface the ST8002 Control Head with the SPX 10. The Garmin Chartplotter and Control Head will be on the flybridge while the other components are down below. Can I simply add the ST8002 to the network using a Seatalk-Seatalkng converter where the NMEA 2000 backbone terminates?

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions!

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum chkjk,

Unlike the Evolution autopilots, it is not recommended that SPX autopilots be connected as spurs to a NMEA 2000 backbone. The proven method of interfacing SPX autopilots to Garmin systems has been to interface the NMEA 0183 terminals of the SPX autopilot course computer to an Actisense NGW-1 NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridge. The NMEA 2000 dongle of the Actisense NGW-1 would then be interface to a spur socket within the powered and properly terminated backbone to which the Garmin system has been interfaced. The ST8002 must be connected directly to the SeaTalk port of the SPX autopilot course computer.
