ST 5000 updrade to EV 100 T70154
Can I change out the ST 5000 unit install the new P70R, ACU and EV-1 Sensor and use my old drive unit? My new EV 100 T70154 was delivered yesterday.
I have a 24' workaround with a 225 hp Yamaha outboard. I have ST 5000 in good working condition with a rudder reference replaced last season. I have RL70CRC. I do not use the autopilot to steer courses. Its sole purpose is 2.0 mph trolling to a set course heading. |

I don't think so, what is the model number of your drive? Is it a Type 1 hydraulic drive that usually came with the ST5000 package? If so, that would require the EV-200. The ACU-100 does not provide enough power to power a Type 1 drive in all conditions.

I will look on Saturday for the drive model number. |

RE: ST 5000 updrade to EV 100 T70154
You don't look at use for sizing an autopilot. With a hydraulic steering system, the RAM capacity of the steering cylinder (pump) will determine the amount of fluid your system contains and required for the pump to push. So either a RAM capacity or a make and model number so I can cross reference the RAM capacity of the drive pump will determine the correct autopilot pump and system.

Thank you I will get the necessary data. |

Great, contact us when you do and we'll confirm the correct autopilot.

RE: ST 5000 updrade to EV 100 T70154
The HC5345 has a RAM capacity of 8.34 Cu/In, which is on the high end of the EV-100 system. Being on the high end of capacity, I always recommend going to the next higher capacity system because of operating the autopilot in heavy seas and longer life. This autopilot would be the Type 1 hydraulic, EV-200. You have supplied the ST5000+ control unit information but nothing on the drive used in the system. I am assuming it is a Type 1 pump, M81120/M81190, please advise.

I see signs of oil, but it must be old, as I never had to add any fluid other than when it was bleed. The Sea Star HC5358, NOT 5345 as indicated above. I have the EV 100 in a box ready to install based on recommendation from Raymarine representative at the Annapolis boat show, but they did not ask me my Sea Star model number. Can you please confirm the most appropriate unit for my hydraulic steering system? |

RE: ST 5000 updrade to EV 100 T70154
The 5358 is the same as the 5345 in cubic inch RAM capacity. I would recommend the EV-200, for that system for reasons stated above. You would be required to use the EV-200 if you are going to use the existing drive. The ACU-100 will not power the Type 1 hydraulic drive.
