GS165 and eS98 network

RE: GS165 and A78 network
Spring is around the corner and its time to sort out this upgrade.

My New equipment that was purchased this winter s
GS165
A78 with CPT-100 Transom Mount
RMK-9 remote
EV-200 Evolution Autopilot with display screen

I have a dsm300 and p66 installed, I'm thinking of keeping this going
just for more depth capability over the cpt-100, will they interfere with each other?
When the cpt-100 loses the bottom due to say 1,000 foot drop off, will the the display still continue to show sonar readings of fish and bait in shallower depths? or will it stop plotting sonar info because its lost bottom ?

The A78 will provide my GS165 with GPS info.

I also need to link this up with my Verados and the two smartcraft gauges
for speed and fuel burn.

As of this moment I'm going to stick with my old Raydome Radar.
Would the old Radar and DSM300 need to be on a separate network adapter from the Autopilot?

RE: GS165 and eS98 network
Firewood,

Q1. I have a dsm300 and p66 installed, I'm thinking of keeping this going
just for more depth capability over the cpt-100, will they interfere with each other?]
A1. Tranducers designed for use with a CP370/CP300/DSM30/DSM300 are designed to support operation at fixed frequencies, 50kHz and 200kHz. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing the frequency ranges across which CHIRP/DownVision transducers use with a CP100, ax8, eSx8 MFD operate with. Onboard my own boat, I operate both a DSM and an a78 MFD and have not experienced any issues with interference. Accordingly, you should find that these fishfinding products cause little, if any interference with one another.

Q2. When the cpt-100 loses the bottom due to say 1,000 foot drop off, will the the display still continue to show sonar readings of fish and bait in shallower depths?
A2. If left in AUTO range, the ax8, eSx8, or CP100 will not continue to show readings of fish at more shallow depths. However, should the ax8, eSx8, or CP100 be configured to MANUAL depth range, then it should indeed support generating returns within shallower depths.

Q3. will it stop plotting sonar info because its lost bottom ?
A3. No. If left in AUTO range the ax8, eSx8, or CP100 will attempt range adjustments until it reacquires the bottom ... this will not satisfy scanning shallower depths ... see the response to Q2.

Q4. I also need to link this up with my Verados and the two smartcraft gauges
for speed and fuel burn.
A4. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject. In this case a Mercury SmartCraft to NMEA 2000 Engine Gateway would be required.

Q5. As of this moment I'm going to stick with my old Raydome Radar.
Would the old Radar and DSM300 need to be on a separate network adapter from the Autopilot?
A5. Autopilot products will interface to the Data Master MFD via a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng backbone. The DSM300 will be interfaced via Ethernet to the MFD or to an Ethernet Network Switch (ex. HS5 RayNet Network Switch, SeaTalkhs Network Switch). Should a Digital or HD Digital Radome be installed onboard, then it too will be interfaced via Ethernet to the MFD or to an Ethernet Network Switch.

RE: GS165 and eS98 network
Thank you - Scary thing is its all starting to make sense to me.

If I opt to use an Axiom 7 DV rather than the A78 am I correct that I can use the DV transducer of the Axiom and my P66 transducer via a Y cable. And eliminate the need for the DSM300 box?

I do realize the Axiom will not be compatible with my GS165 until the software is upgraded to Lighthouse 3.

RE: GS165 and eS98 network
I'm waiting on the shipment of my Axiom 7 Rv unit and in the mean time I can plug my DSM300 into my gS165 by using the #A80272 cable. right???

Also the Y cable #E66022 is what I'll need for the Axiom to handle both the RV and the P66 if I want to eliminate the DSM300.

RE: GS165 and eS98 network
Firewood,

Q1: I'm waiting on the shipment of my Axiom 7 Rv unit and in the mean time I can plug my DSM300 into my gS165 by using the #A80272 cable. right???
A1. As the Ethernet NETWORK sockets of an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD and HS5 RayNet Network Switch feature RayNet (M) sockets, an A80272 RayNet (M) to SeaTalkhs (M) Adapter would not be used for this application unless it in turn was going to be used with an appropriate length of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable. Should the DSM300 be located within 3m of the MFD or HS5 RayNet Network Switch, then an A80276 3m RayNet (F) to SeaTalkhs (M) Adapter would be used to interface the DSM300 to these items.

Q2. Also the Y cable #E66022 is what I'll need for the Axiom to handle both the RV and the P66 if I want to eliminate the DSM300.
A2. No. An A80492 Axiom RV to 25-pin RV & 7-pin CP370/CP300/DSM30/DSM300 Compatible Transducers Y-Cable would be used for this applicaton. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject.
