RE: [CA11] difference between RS125 and RS130
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Tony,

The Raystar 125 GPS Sensor's communications circuitry was designed to support SeaTalk or NMEA 0183 communications. The type of communications supported by the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor was determined by the manner in which it was installed (see the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor's Installation Guide). The Raystar 130 GPS Sensor's communications circuitry was designed to exclusively support SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 communications. The Raystar 130 GPS Sensor may be adapted to support SeaTalk (via a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter) or NMEA 0183 (via a NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 Data Bridging device (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-STNG, etc.) communications.

Both the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor and Raystar 130 GPS Sensor support WAAS (United States); EGNOS (Europe); MSAS (Japan). The Raystar 130 GPS Sensor additionally supports GAGAN (India). The Raystar 125 GPS Sensor featured a 12 channel satellite receiver while the Raystar 130 GPS Sensor featured a 50 channel satellite receiver. Both GPS receivers were capable of less than 3m accuracy. However, the position (and resulting COG) filtering of the Raystar 130 GPS Sensor was significantly better than the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor. One of the simplest ways to demonstrate the latter would be to test each system on a stationary boat. Permit each sensor to acquire a GPS position FIX. After doing so, range as far in as the MFD will permit and then start a track. Allow the system to remain on for an hour or so and then compare the resulting tracks plotted by each system. One would typically find that the plotted track of the MFD which has been interfaced to the Raystar 130 GPS sensor shows significantly less, if any, detected movement.
