RE: [CA11] GPS Rollover date 2019
All,
The E-Series Classic MFDs (E80, E120) do not feature an internal GPS receiver. Like the C-Series Classic MFDs and the hsb/hsb2/SL Pathfinder Series Radar, Chartplotter, and Fishfinder Displays, the E-Series Classic MFDs were dependent upon an external GPS receiver. Depending upon the make/model of external GPS receiver which had been interfaced to the system, the system may or may not be affected by this year's GPS rollover. No software updates will be issued to address products affected by GPS rollover. The Raystar 112LP, RayNav300, Raystar 120, Raystar 125, and Raystar 130 GPS sensors were the most commonly employed Raymarine GPS receivers for these systems. Of these GPS receivers, the Raystar 112LP GPS Receiver was impacted on 16 April 2018; the RayNav300 GPS Receiver will be impacted on 15 January, the Raystar 120 GPS Receiver will be impacted on 16 August 2019, the Raystar 125 GPS Receiver will be impacted on 16 April 2025, and the Raystar 130 GPS Receiver will not be impacted until 16 July 2030. GPS rollover effect may be addressed for all of the above listed products by replacing the currently installed GPS sensor with a Raystar 150 GPS Sensor. See the FAQs below: - Interfacing a Raystar 150 GPS Sensor to a hsb/hsb2/SL Pathfinder Series Display - Interfacing a Raystar 150 GPS Sensor to a C-Series Classic MFD - Interfacing a Raystar 150 GPS Sensor to an E-Series Classic MFD As indicated previously within this thread, more details will be released this week. |

RE: [CA11] GPS Rollover date 2019
Per the PDF looks like I have until 2028 to get an external GPS or replace unit. Does that mean no software fix for the E125/E127? Which external GPS is recommended?

RE: [CA11] GPS Rollover date 2019
mystery,
As the e-Series MFDs feature both a NMEA 2000 and a NMEA 0183 communications interface, any external GPS sensor supporting one of these two communications protocols may be used with the MFD when the MFD's internal GPS receiver nears it rollover date. As of today, Raymarine's Raystar 150 GPS Sensor may be used as an alternate GPS data source. |

Do I also take it that if you have an AIS transponder that the Classic C or E series will use the GPS data from the AIS data stream?
Thanks. |

RE: [CA11] GPS Rollover date 2019
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum svanetempest,
While many AIS transceivers support transmission of GPS data via their 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 port, most will default this feature to OFF. This is because AIS transceivers typically do not support transmission of the full set of data which a would be transmitted by a marine electronics system's GPS receiver, MFD (having an internal GPS receiver), chartplotter (having and internal GPS receiver), or GPS display. One of the key pieces of missing data typically omitted from 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 transmissions from an AIS transceiver are date and time data ... specifically the data item which would be affected by GPS rollover. Accordingly, Raymarine AIS transceivers are defaulted to not included GNSS sentences within their 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 transmissions. Raymarine AIS transceivers do not support transmission of GPS data to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 network. |
