[CA11] SPX-100 & Rotary Mechanical Type 1 & P70
worked great for 5000 miles around the Caribbean, then started getting a "low ship battery voltage" error and would go to standby. The chain and cable , quadrant, etc were all lubed to decrease resistance in the system, as it was getting stiff, but still occurring after lubing.
Could it be the wiring corroded, or the rotary motor bushings worn from working too hard? |

RE: [CA11] SPX-100 & Rotary Mechanical Type 1 & P70
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum tcfarquhar,
The reported symptom is not that of a problem with the drive. A failing drive would typically draw more current than an operational drive would be reported as such. Instead, the reported message is indicative of insufficient power being supplied to the autopilot course computer. Power and ground leads from the autopilot course computer through any circuit panels to the batteries and ground point should be inspected for damage, signs of corrosion and tightness. The reported issue may also be indicative of batteries which are in need of maintenance or are failing. Should the condition occur with a fully charged battery set, then it would be recommended that the batteries be load tested. |
