Hi,
btw, this issue was solved last spring. Not in Raymarine manuals...if the voltage drops below, was it now 11 V, the radome gets angry and only a full booting helps. Eg in Finnish spring conditions (short drives between islands, heater on in nighttime) the voltage may very well go below 11 V during the night; the radome does not start any more even when the voltage rises back to 13,8 V after starting the engine. What you need is to have a separate circuit for the radome and switch it off BEFORE the voltage drops. Then it starts with no problem next day when the engine is on and charges and you switch the radome on then. best regards mika |

Dear Mika,
Thank you for the post. In the Quantum installation manual it states that the product needs a continuous minimum voltage of 10.8v with a fully flat battery at 11v. If you are extending the power cable it needs to be a minimum 14AWG, is the cable you have used of substantial size? If the power supply was sufficient the radar would be reliable and operate as expected. Most 12v products will shutdown with such voltages. It is probably a good thing to shut the radome off at the breaker at night and switch it back on after powering the engine back on. With your voltage dropping so low, when the engine starts this will cause quite a big spike in voltage with potential to cause issues. 11v is not a satisfactory supply for the Quantum Radome, a sufficient power supply is required. It could be worth investigating having your marine navigation equipment on a separate power bank than the heating system. Many Thanks Louise |

My point was not that I would not know or that it would no be said in the manual that 12 V or any V equipment stop working when the voltage drops below a certain level. It was that the radome does not recover by itself from this drop when the voltage raises again, but it has to be booted (power switched totally off). This can then be done from the main switch, or, if one has a separate circuit, switching that off. This is not mentioned in the manual - maybe it would be good to add there as it might and might save some others from the trouble of trying to find the reason for this "irregular" phenomenon. b r mika |
