RE: [TG11] Connecting spx/st 60 network to a st290 ST2 network
Hello JP,
We're always happy for people to jump in on a forum post as long as it's on-topic and doesn't 'hijack' the thread in a different direction, away from the question the original poster asked. In theory that should work, but multiple network connections (multiple convertors, more than 2 navigational data network types, excluding SeatalkHS/Raynet/Ethernet) should always be avoided if at all possible. One of the problems that can occur is devices relaying data in both directions and particularly Seatalk1 devices 'backing off': stopping transmitting data that they see as already being present on the network. This kind of multi-link network is prone to intermittent data, or static data cycling round in a loop. Unfortunately there's no really good way to connect that group of devices: ST290's Seatalk2 network, which is NMEA2000-ish but not compliant with current versions of the standard, adds a layer of complexity which we don't have in other systems. It was a good thing at the time but isn't as forwards-compatible as the far more established Seatalk1 network unfortunately. Regards, Tom Raymarine since 1999. Interests: Diagnosis of problems in sonar/fishfinders, NMEA2000, ethernet comms, autopilots, thermal cameras Location: Sydney, Australia. Please don't PM me asking for direct support, please ask a public question instead so that others can see the question and answer. Forum posts will always be answered before PM requests. |
