(DG) Fluxgate Noise
Is it normal for the M81190 to make a clunking noise when tipped side to side?

RE: (DG) Fluxgate Noise
Hi jwasko

Thank you for your enquiry.

The fluxgate compass sensor has a mechanically gymballed sensor core inside. This is to keep the sensor coils in a horizontal plane when the vessel is not on an even keel. The clunking noise occurs when the gymballed core reaches the limits of movement and contacts the inside of the housing. In practice this would only happen onboard a vessel in very extreme situations, which are likely to be welll outside normal operation parameters.

If you are concerned about the electronic operation of the unit, please click here for more information on how to test.
Regards
