[CA11] ST6002 SmartPilot X-5 linear drive unit power supply
When the AutoPilot system was new the tiller's linear drive unit could exert sufficient thrust and react adequately to steer the yacht in response to input commands but now can no longer do so.
The tiller moves freely when steering manually with the linear drive unit disconnected. All of the system's wiring connections have been inspected and are confirmed to be in good condition. The system is not fitted with a rudder position sensor. The supply to the Course Computer is 12 to 13 volts but the output from the Course Computer is only 5.8 volts when attempting to use the AutoPilot system to steer the yacht. Software issue number: Version 5 Information on labels at rear of Course Computer: 5670-006 Bar Code 41237829 What should we try next to return the system to a usable condition? Jim |

RE: [CA11] ST6002 SmartPilot X-5 linear drive unit power supply
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Jim,
The reported problem may be indicative of a failure of the autopilot course computer or a drive unit which is in need of service (drawing too much power). This problem may be fault isolated by disconnecting the drive unit's motor leads from the drive unit and then connecting a voltmeter to the autopilot course computer's motor terminals. The autopilot control head would then be commanded into Auto mode (press the control head's AUTO button) and then the +10 button would be pressed three times in rapid succession. The measured voltage across the motor terminals should be approximately 6.9VDC. If a lower voltage is measured, then the autopilot course computer should be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced. If expected voltage is observed, then the linear drive unit should be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced. |
